India and Israel have signed a Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) to enhance economic cooperation and boost mutual investments. The agreement was signed in New Delhi by India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

The agreement is designed to provide greater protection and transparency for investors from both countries. It includes safeguards against expropriation, ensures smooth transfer of funds, compensation for losses, and offers an independent arbitration process for dispute resolution. It also maintains the host country’s right to regulate while offering a secure and predictable investment environment.

The signing took place in the presence of senior officials from both governments and marks a significant milestone in India-Israel relations, which already see bilateral investments worth around USD 800 million. Both ministers expressed optimism that the agreement will open new avenues for trade, innovation, and investment.

Finance Minister Sitharaman highlighted India’s pro-business reforms over the past decade, which have made it the world’s fastest growing major economy and an attractive destination for global investors.
