  • Adani Power secures LoI to develop a $3 billion, 2,400 MW thermal power plant in Bhagalpur, Bihar.
  • The plant will supply 2,274 MW to Bihar's power distribution companies at Rs 6.075/kWh.
  • Project to generate 10,000–12,000 construction jobs and 3,000 operational jobs, aiding state industrial growth.
Adani Power Ltd. has announced that it has secured a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) to set up a 2,400 MW thermal power plant in Pirpainti village, Bhagalpur district. The project, worth approximately $3 billion, aims to supply 2,274 MW of electricity to the state.
The electricity generated from this upcoming greenfield project will be distributed to North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL). Adani Power emerged as the lowest bidder in a competitive bidding process, quoting a final tariff of Rs 6.075 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
The power plant will operate under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model and will be based on ultra-supercritical technology, known for its higher efficiency and lower emissions.
“We are pleased to have won the bid to develop and operate a 2,400 MW thermal power project in Bihar”, said S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power. “This project will not only provide reliable and affordable electricity but also support industrial growth in the state”.
The first of the plant's three 800 MW units is expected to be commissioned within 48 months of the project’s official start date, with the entire facility coming online within 60 months.
Coal for the project will be sourced through a linkage granted under the Government of India’s SHAKTI (Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyala Transparently in India) policy.
The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities, generating an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 jobs during construction and about 3,000 permanent jobs once operational.
Adani Power anticipates receiving the formal Letter of Award (LoA) shortly, following which a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) will be signed with the state’s power utilities.
