After a yearlong stint at Mphasis as CEO, Jeya Kumar has recently joined Patni Computer Systems as its CEO. He has replaced Narendra K. Patni who will continue as the chairman of the company. With over 25 years of industry experience, Kumar in his new role will be responsible for driving the company's global operations; and defining and executing the company's long-term strategy focused on growth, profitability, and customer and operational excellence throughout Patni's value chain. Prior to Mphasis, he was Senior Vice-President of Sun Microsystems and a member of Sun's Executive Management Group (EMG). Notably, he was the first Asia-Pacific employee in the company's history to become a member of the EMG.

At Sun, as head of the $5 billion-a-year Services business, Kumar was responsible for the business unit’s financial performance, strategy, marketing, portfolio management, in-market management, product engineering, technology development, M&A, and channels in more than 120 countries. He has also held various management and executive positions with global firms including Apple Computers and National Semi-Conductor. During the course of his extensive career, he has undertaken assignments in Singapore, Japan, Australia, the United States, Mexico, Holland, and the United Kingdom.

Talking about his new role Kumar says, "I realize that I am stepping into the shoes of an illustrious leader and I'll strive to maximize the shareholder value and take the company into its new growth phase."

Kumar has a masters degree in business from Curtin University, Australia, bachelors degree, also in business, from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia; and postgraduate diplomas in computer science, management studies, and marketing management. He has also attended the Advanced Management Program at Oxford University.
