Kuljeet Singh, one of the pioneers in the Indian tablets industry passed away on 22 July 2012. He was 48. Singh met with an accident in New Delhi. He was the founder of Datawind's establishment in India and also a great visionary. He believed that tablet computers could be used to help bring a better quality of education to the masses if could be made affordable. Singh helped start India’s tablet revolution by launching the low-cost tablet Aakash. This tablet formed a base for other low cost tablets in India.

DataWind is a British manufacturing and marketing company producing wireless web access products. The company was originally founded in Montreal in 2001 but now headquartered in London. The company also has offices in Amritsar, Dallas and Mississauga.

Kuljeet Singh was an inspiring and kind leader. He was a soft spoken business person and created a reputation of integrity and humility for himself. He was also a very religious person and was attached to ‘Amritwela’ and ‘Sewa’. He had spent each night in the last 30 years at the Golden Temple from 12:30AM to 2:30AM doing his prayers and volunteer service. An active participant in Kirtan, he regularly participated in numerous samagams in India and internationally every year.

Aakash is a series of Android-based tablet computers produced by British company DataWind. The tablet was officially launched as the Aakash in New Delhi on 5 October 2011. The Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development announced an upgraded second-generation model called Aakash 2 in April 2012.The device was developed as part of the country's aim to link 25,000 colleges and 400 universities in an e-learning program. Originally projected as a "$35 laptop".

It is certain that he’ll be missed but the tablet revolution he helped start in India will have a positive impact that will be remembered for generations. Kuldeep leaves behind a legacy and filling his shoes will be a tough task for the future generations.
