8 Soon-To-Be Obsolete Gadgets
4. MP3 Players: Gone are the days when people carried MP3 players in their pockets for music and used mobile phones only for calling and messaging. Records, 8-tracks tapes, cassette tapes and CD’s, led to the development of mp3 players that were introduced by the German company, Fraunhofer-Gesellshaft. These days, many people spend time listening to music on their phones along with making calls. The improvement of phones into smartphones has led smartphones to become the most popular means of listening to music.
Yong-hyuk Na, Senior Researcher at LG Mobile Communications Future Products Laboratory said, "As the functionality of smartphones has increased, so too has the demand to use their features on the go. In particular smartphones are popularly used for listening to music when out and about, avoiding the need to carry multiple devices. Therefore the quality of the audio provided by smartphones has never been more important to consumers."
5. Desktop Computers: Man has seen the evolution of computers from the extra large EINAC computers that weighted more than 30 short tons, occupied 1800 square feet and used up 150 kilowatts of power; to the recently announced thin ultrabooks. Towards the mid-2000s, computers lost their popularity because of the introduction of laptops. Desktops had to be plugged into an electricity socket all the time and the new laptops allowed the user to carry the machine around without having to keep it plugged in all the time. Now with the new range of ultrabooks, all-in-one computer, even the sale of laptops has gone down.
