8 Soon-To-Be Obsolete Gadgets

2. DVD Players: This is a device that plays both the type of disks, DVD-Video and DVD- Audio. This machine needs to be connected to the TV to watch the content on the DVD. After its release in Japan in 1994, DVDs became a huge hit as it became very popular in many countries around the world. But that fame didn’t last long. The introduction of the Blu-ray disks brought down the demand for DVDs. Blu-ray disks were different due to their ability to store high definition (HD) video resolution. Even Blu-rays are now reducing in popularity because people these days stream movies instead of going to DVD stores and buying CDs. Streaming allows the user to begin watching a movie he wants to see even before the complete movie is downloaded. Previously in the 1930’s elevator music was an available streaming media but now internet television is a common form for streaming videos.

3. Flash Drives: Before the introduction of cloud, flash drives or USBs were the only means of storage, backup and transfer of files. USBs were able to store upto 64GB data initially but in the more recent years (2013) USBs with the ability to store upto 512 GB and 1 terabyte of data were launched.  Pen drives became increasingly popular because of their lightweight, they were easy to carry, able to withstand scratches unlike DVDs, and they were not easily destroyable. More recently, Cloud computing is becoming widely used by many people due to its efficiency and its ability to maintain, manage and backup data. Many people and software giants like Apple and Amazon have opted Cloud storage because it allows users to access their synced files across all internet enabled devices. Cloud storage companies also provide free storage accounts, simple ways of file sharing and files are less likely to get attacked by viruses.
