These are software installed on computers to underhandedly record everything typed. Everything from emails to login names and passwords can be divulged thanks to these programs. For hackers who mine such information, public computers can be a goldmine.
In public places, one of the things you can do when typing passwords is to alternate entry of real characters on the password field and dummy characters on a notepad. That should keep the hacker busy while you get to a safe computer and change your banking passwords.
