Support for Palestinian Independence
BBC has conducted a poll, including 20, 000 people in 19 countries to determine the support for an independent Palestine. 49 percent supported Palestinian independence,while 21 percent opposed, and 30 percent were unsure.
Chinese were among the most enthusiastic with 56 percent in favor and only 9 percent opposed to it.
The United States polled 45 percent in favour and 35 percent opposition.
A similar pattern emerged in Europe. In France, 54 percent supported, 20 percent opposed. Germany saw 53 percent supporting, 28 percent opposing. U.K. polled 53 percent for and 26 percent against.
The support was prominent in the Muslim nations. Turkey recorded 60 percent support, 19 percent opposition; Pakistan saw 52 percent for, 12 percent against; and in Indonesia 51 percent were for, 16 percent against. The support was strongest in Egypt with 90 percent favouring and only 9 percent opposing.
The lowest level of support was in India, with 32 percent support and 25 percent opposed, and many not sure.
