Mahendra Nath Das:
Mahendra Nath Das from Assam was found guilty of murdering Hara Kanta Das, a truck owner, on April 24, 1996. Das had murdered Hare Kanta by severing his head with a sword. The Supreme Court had observed that the murder committed was “extremely gruesome, heinous, cold-blooded and cruel.”
He had filed a mercy petition before the President which was rejected on May 8, 2011 after an inordinate delay of 12 years.
