Search Engines brought a hit and Google Wave a flop show
With so many products, Google's bread and butter are its search engine. Google Sites have dominated search engine rankings for years, with the company's lineup capturing about 65 percent of the search market. Google gives its own products more prominence in order to gain customers attention. Google's first foray into social was Google Wave, which was launched in 2009 at the company's Google I/O conference. Wave allowed users to share images and other media in real time, but it never quite caught on with the general public as a replacement for email and real-time collaboration. Google killed Wave in August 2010, but its code lives on.
