Sachin's 100 Centuries and India's Corruption Among Top Stories Of 2012

Wisconsin Gurudwara shooting
Another story that shocked the world in 2012 is the Wisconsin Gurudwara shooting. It ranked number 5 among the top crime stories this year by TIME. The incident occurred on 5th August 2012 at the Gurudwara of Wisconsin in Oak Creek, where worshippers had gathered for morning services. Wade Michael Page entered the complex and open fire killing 6 people and wounding four others.

The police rushed for rescue, Page was hit in the combat, and unable to escape Page turned his legally purchased 9 millimeter semiautomatic weapon to his head and pulled the trigger. No motive was discovered to Page’s outraged shooting. The authorities later found Page’s connection to many radical far right groups. Other than Page serving in the U.S. Army from 1992 to 1998 very little is known about him. The reason for targeting the Gurudwara or the Sikh community in general still remains unknown.

After the shootout instead of shutting the Gurudwara the Sikhs decided to clean and repair the building and continue worshipping there. TIME said, “Wade Michael Page may have staged his attack to shine a spotlight on himself and his racist ideology but, in spite of the carnage, the incident became an example of how ordinary heroism could shine in the face of a sudden onslaught of evil,” as reported by PTI.
