Phelps, the Swimming Champ
Michael Phelps, the aquatic man, the world swimming champion and the most decorated Olympian. Michael Phelps has broken 36 world records, 16 Olympic records and acquired 26 world titles. This year he didn’t set any world records as he did in Beijing during the last Olympics, however he did win 4 gold and 2 silver medals. Tagged as the fittest human in recorded history with 22 Olympic medals, outshined Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina’s who long kept the record of winning 18 medals. Phelps said after his win at the 2012 Olympic, “I couldn't ask to finish on a better note. I have done everything I wanted to do. I am very happy.” 

Indian Hockey Team
The Indian men’s field national hockey team, after a gap of eight years was qualified this year for the Summer Olympics in London. All the pre- Olympics hopes were crushed when India lost all five pool matches by scoring just 6 goals and conceding 18 goals. India was the only team to lose so drastically among others. Back in the 1948 Olympics which was held in London, Indian hockey team made its most renowned sporting achievement by bagging the gold medal at the game, unlike stooping to a new low this year.
