Negotiation, A Much Needed Skill For Entrepreneurs

Think on your feet

There are several things that should be kept in mind when you are preparing for a meeting that you know is going to turn into a negotiation. First thing that has to be understood is that every party that will be in the process will have their own agendas, and they will be pushing it throughout the event. ‘Thinking on feet’ is a key requirement if you want to win in this situation. You can never plan enough for a negotiation in advance as the status-quo changes as soon as you start the process and this is where agility comes in handy. You need to be able to understand what the other party might be looking for from this, and plan your strategy accordingly, so that you can create the illusion of win-win situation. Here presentation, as in the way you present yourself, also matters. The cloths you choose to wear have to be comfortable, smart and fairly conservative. Never be in an attire that makes you uncomfortable and take your attention from the process. No matter how well prepared you are if you are not comfortable in your attire and is conscious about that, things will fall apart.
