Microsoft In Talks With Lava And Micromax For Windows Smartphones

Besides Lava, the software giant also seems to be in talks with Micromax, the second biggest Smartphone manufacturer in India, with the same proposition, but it is yet to be confirmed if we will be seeing a Micromax device running Windows Phone 8.1 next year. “Talks are on but we need to agree on how we can do that. One of the contentious issues is the license fee that has to be paid to Microsoft for using Windows Phone. Android on the other hand is free”, said a Micromax official. Shashin Devsare, executive director of Karbonn, refused to comment on the matter. But he added Karbonn was a hardware and software agnostic company and that they are looking to provide a different experience to the customers.

The Indian companies are likely to adopt the Windows platform if Microsoft is prepared to waive the license fee. Even though MS declined to comment on this matter, sources say the company is looking to strengthen the Windows Phone ecosystem by introducing the OS into many devices, especially in the mainstream and low-end segment.
