Microsoft In Talks With Lava And Micromax For Windows Smartphones

Vishal Sehgal, co-founder and director of Xolo, the premier phones line created by Lava said, “We will come out with a WP device next year. The plan is to launch with Windows Phone 8.1.” Windows Phone 8.1 will be bringing some of the much needed features to the Windows platform which includes a Siri-like personal assistant codenamed “Cortana” and a notification centre that collects and displays all the notices in one place. It is also rumored that Microsoft will be moving away from hardware keys and towards the on-screen soft-keys that is most widely seen in Android phones, but if Lava will also be adopting such a design is yet to be seen.

In the 3rd quarter of 2013, according IDC, Karbonn, Micromax and Lava had a combined global market share of 32 percent, which amounts to over 50 percent in the Indian market share. Whereas Nokia, the prime WP manufacturer had a market share of only 5 percent. Microsoft is likely to see huge gains if these deals go through.
