Sanvar who is currently pursuing his PhD in Business Economics is a first generation entrepreneur who is proactively working on a pan India rural development and poverty alleviation. He is currently re-instating a super crop long marginalized for its association with cannabis – industrial hemp. Sanvar founded the Bombay Hemp Company (BOHECO) which works closely with the government to manufacture innovative products for pharmaceutical, construction, energy, paper, food, textiles, automobiles, oil and cordage industries.

Tushar met Matthew Cherian while he was working on the UID project; the duo were roommates. They conducted a lifestyle experiment in which they lived at the government-stipulated poverty line of 32/day. This research and its findings gave voice to the poor thereby creating empathy amongst India’s privileged, and providing concrete policy solutions to the government. “We started on this experiment to live on Rs 100 a day,” recalls Cherian. “Both of us lost a lot of weight and found that it was nearly impossible to sustain.”
