India's 8 Erstwhile Royals Who are Vying for the Lok Sabha Seats

Kalikesh Singh Deo: The sitting MP from Biju Janta Dal (BJD) in Orissa, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo belongs to the Bolangir royal family.  In this election, his rival for the seat is his own sister-in-law, Sangeeta Singh Deo, a two-time MP of the BJP.

Speaking to the media, Deo exclaimed, "It's a bit of both... it's an advantage because my family has been in politics for a long time. There is a history of serving people, so therefore a great deal of goodwill exists. The disadvantage is that the expectations are very high and one needs to work really hard," reports NDTV.

Ijyaraj Singh: Kota's erstwhile prince, Ijyaraj Singh is a member of parliament representing the Kota constituency in the Lok Sabha. Singh contested and won his seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, on the ticket of Congress, defeating Shyam Sharma of the BJP by 83,093 votes. In the 2014 polls, he is fielded for the Kota constituency from Congress seat against senior BJP leader Om Birla.
During the campaign, Singh said, “The people should realize that Kota's landscape changed in the past five years with new roads, high mast lights, improved drinking water system and drainage and new housing projects. All this came during the Congress regime and 2,000 crore was spent on the development of the city in five years,” reports Rediff.
