Indian MPs Take Political Feud to the U.S., Urge Not To Revoke Ban on Modi

The 65 members of Indian parliament faxed a letter to the U.S. President to request his government not to grant a visa to the controversial Hindu nationalist politician. They had also sent a similar letter last year.

As per the letter signed by mostly Muslim leaders from various political parties, including the ruling Congress Party said, “We wish to respectfully urge you to maintain the current policy of denying Mr. Modi a visa to the United States,” reports The Washington Post.

On the other hand, BJP supporters and activists too have been lobbying with U.S. leaders, which resulted in at least three American lawmakers going against the administration's current policy to allow Modi in the country. Further, the U.S. business community has been impressed by Modi and his Vibrant Gujarat.

The leaders of the country who are meant to represent the country on the global platform are now tarnishing the image of the country by bringing up communal elements in the forefront.

“It is almost unthinkable that Indian lawmakers would appeal to the United States to take a stand on an internal matter. Most Indian politicians, many of whom still nurse a Cold War-era suspicion of Washington, would bristle at the very thought of it,” reported WT.
