1. Narendra Modi-

Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi also fondly called NaMo is India’s Most Mentioned politicians since February 2013, leading more than thrice as many mentions as his close competitor, Rahul Gandhi. Modi dominated in the beginning of the year because of the exciting Gujarat Summit organised by him. This summit was the starting point for masses to discuss about him as the potential candidate for the Prime Minister’s post. Views of support from the public and also by the Sangh Parivar and BJP leaders such as Yashwant Sinha had all the more given a boost to the discussions.

Signals of sarcasm against Modi in regard to the Gujarat riots and negative views in the context of Muslims have always garnered attention. It was the speech on February 6 at Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi University that put him back into the limelight that month. While in March it was his dismissal as a speaker from Wharton India Economic Forum that was again a much talked about topic.

The speech of Gujarat Chief Minister at FICCI to women entrepreneurs and comparing the speech of Rahul Gandhi at CII in April had resulted in conversation overload. Accusations faced by Modi from civil rights activist, Teesta Setalwad for his involvement in the 2002 Godhra riots was another reason for him to be the most mentioned for the month of April.

NaMo has the 30 percent higher mentions by women, while Sushma Swaraj has 24 percent.
