India Among The 10 Largest Arms Importers In The World



Algeria:
Between the periods of 2003-2007 and 2008-2012, Algeria’s race in arms imports are increased by 277 percent placing from 22nd to 6th. The country’s 93 percent of weapons system, such as 44 Su-30MKA combat aircrafts; 2 Project-636 submarines; S-300PMU-2 long-range surface-to-air missile systems and 185-T90S tanks, are imported from Russia. In addition to these Russian weapons, Algeria also purchased 2 MEKO-A200 frigates from Germany and 3 F-22A frigates from China. As per the SIPRI Arms Transfers Database, Algeria is accounted for 4 percent of world deliveries.

Singapore:
Singapore now stands as the fifth largest weapons buyer that accounts 4 percent of global arms imports. Though, the country’s population is just 5.1 million, with the tension brewing in the South China Sea, the country is prioritizing its weapon defense system. 43 percent of its weapons were bought from the United States. This nation comes up within the top 5 as its Ministry of Defense has received one of the biggest budgets in the government department and also 6 percent of the country’s gross domestic product is allocated on defense.
