Bangalore: One of India's most prestigious technical schools, IIT Roorkee has declined to lodge any FIR so far against mass copying and irregularities at one of its Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) centre at Bhatinda. The news came to limelight through an acknowledgement obtained in replay to a RTI query filed by Vipin Gupta which said even after four months, no actions were taken despite instructions of the then Chairman, IIT Joint Admission Board 2011 (JAB) and Director IIT Kanpur. During IIT JEE 2011, an applicant, appearing at Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology, Bhatinda, had filed a written complaint that some of the JEE candidates were assisted by the college staff and the invigilators in her examination room and that there was mass copying by students in the centre. After the bungling was found by an inquiry committee, IIT-Kanpur, the organizer of the Joint Entrance Examination this year, took grave note of the accusation. Since Bhatinda centre falls under IIT-Roorkee, Director of IIT Kanpur advised the director and the Chairman, JEE, IIT Roorkee to lodge an FIR with the local police authorities so that "the matter could be further examined to administer the blame on the concerned person(s)".
