Mikhail KhodorkovskyThe chairman and CEO of Yukos, Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky was arrested on October 25, 2003 to appear before investigators as a witness. But within hours of being taken into custody he was charged with fraud. Shortly after convicting him with fraud charges, the government froze shares of Yukos leading to a collapse of the company’s share price.

Khodorkovsky was found guilty and sentenced to nine years in prison in May 2005. While still in jail, he was again charged and found guilty of embezzlement and money laundering in 2010 extending his imprisonment to 2017.
