Court Cases in India That Enraged the Whole Country

Jessica Lal’s controversial murder case witnessed a nation-wide protest as well as an immense coverage of media. Her murder took place at Delhi’s Mehrauli Bar when Manu Sharma demanded the celebrity barmaid for more alcohol. Son of influential politician of congress party, Manu, offered Jessica 1000 despite which she denied serving more alcohol post 12.30 AM. This urged Manu to shoot this Delhi based model in the head, killing her instantly. Under heavy media pressure, Sharma was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court on December 20, 2006.

Land Acquisition Case in Uttar Pradesh

This is another case which can be related to the ugly Indian Politics. To bring about development in just one section of society, the UP government conned poor farmers of many villages in 2011 that had agricultural lands by showing them dreams of working in a better industrial area. Unfortunately, this never happened because the scandalous government passed these lands on to builders for building residential apartments. The Supreme Court in its several judgments also announced that this is a game of pure fraud that has played with the lives of innocent villagers. Later, the UP government was ordered to increase compensation of the acquired land to make up for the damage.
