Apple's Evolutions on the iPhone Software Since 2007


# iOS 3: Next major update was in 2009, the iOS 3 featured text messages support for sharing contacts using the v card file format, support for copy and paste and sending multiple messages or deleting them at the same time with the addition of photo and video messaging and voice control features.

# iOS 4: The release of iOS 4 in 2010 added much more sophistication to the iPhone. It got in features like multi tasking support, wall papers could be changed on the home screen and had face time video calling on the iPhone 4. Among the new features introduced, the developments on the messaging app enabled its users to search within the text messages much like the search feature in the emails and displayed messages character count too.

# iOS 5: The 2011 release of the iOS 5 improved the notifications for text messages and MMS by displaying it on the drop down notification menu and on the lock screen. With this, the iPod touch and iPad gained support for messages on the iOS 5 with the iMessage. The iMessage allows the users to send text, picture messages and contacts to iOS 5 users using the Wi-Fi or 3G network. It also came with iCloud, which allowed you to back up all the content of the phone on the Apple’s cloud storage facility and also added the virtual voice assistant ‘Siri’ to the iPhone 4s.
