#3 China

The communist country has blocked the video sharing platform on the basis of the tension that is prevailing between China and Tibet. Several videos that showed Chinese army inflicting brutal and inhuman torture on the Tibetan people lead to the block on YouTube. In 2009 the service in the country was completely banned as the authorities failed to confirm on whether YouTube was accessible in China by any means.

#4 Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority banned YouTube in the country on the basis of religious aspects. A number of non-Islamic objectionable videos and clips that were insulting Islam were floating on the platform that made the authorities to cut off the service. The website was withheld in February 2008 under the ‘Blasphemy law’ which rewards lifelong imprisonment or death.

#5 Germany

The popular video sharing service was curbed in Germany in regards with the copyright and intellectual property protection laws. Google owned YouTube was sued by GEMA, a German performance rights organization for using copyrighted videos without the owner’s approval.  Since the issue occurred in March 2009, tracks from famous labels became inaccessible to the public and finally the entire service was cut off as the agreement expired.
