#5 The hardware wasn’t ready

Over the period, Microsoft’s OEM partners released amazing device for Windows 8. Lenovo and Dell have been the edgiest, releasing new touchscreen devices that flip and fold into some positions that seem downright unnatural, like the Lenovo Yoga shown here. HP and Samsung, among others, delivered new devices that shift almost effortlessly between tablet and notebook modes. The problem was that, there weren’t ready in October 2012, when Windows 8 was released to the public. And it took months for OEMs to release the device. Even Microsoft’s own Surface Pro didn’t arrive until more than three months after the Windows 8 launch.

Meanwhile Windows 8 was tried on traditional laptops and desktops that were ill-suited for the new touch-centric operating system, which obviously failed to impress consumers.
