What Led to the Transformation: The initial concept with which redBus came in the market was based on a business-to-business model. They has planned to sell ticket booking software to bus operators but as they realized bus operators have their orthodox ways of dealing, they became more consumer-centric and started booking tickets for travelers.

Why It Worked: It is difficult to mend how operators deal as in most cases they are not well educated and avoid opting for changes. Providing solution to travelers made more sense as their initial motive was to make the process convenient for the end users.

5. Flipkart

Core Function: e-Commerce

Previously Known As: Flipkart (as online book vendor)

Funding From: Accel India and Tiger Global

What Led to the Transformation: With the boom in the Indian e-commerce industry, it was becoming difficult for Flipkart to firm its ground with only books in their offerings. They realized the same and Flipkart now sells anything and everything from electronics to home-needs.

Why It Worked: The competition in the e-Commerce industry is very stiff and in order to achieve success, it becomes important that one diversifies its offerings and ranks upon its competitors from all dynamics. This move has proved tremendously profitable for Flipkart that is counted among the top 20 websites in India.
