Rajiv Shah

Rajiv Shah is the highest ranking Indian appointee in Obama administration who happens to be the 16th administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).He directs the efforts of nearly 8,000 professionals working for more than 80 missions across the world.

Rajiv heads ‘Feed the Future’, a landmark food security initiative of Obama and also steers   ‘USAID Forward’ a set of widespread reforms including seven key areas to the business model of USAID.

Rajiv worked as Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics and as Chief Scientist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), prior to joining USAID as the administrator. He launched the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, a scientific organization which promotes the status and funding of research work in the field of agriculture.

Rajiv holds an M.D from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and earned his post graduation health economics from the Wharton School of Business. He was an active member of boards such as the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), the Seattle Public Library, and the Seattle Community College District.
