This indeed is a tricky question. If you knowledge is along the business side, then a shift back to the IT won’t be a problem. But if you are technically cynical, then your return to the IT can take longer as much as you stay away from it. The best advice is that if you are willing to return to IT, then do it as quickly as you can.

What is the main difference between an IT and a business? Businesses are almost predictable and the IT sector is simply unpredictable. In a business, employees can predict what the scenario will be for tomorrow or after a week, but in an IT it’s totally unpredictable. A system can crash or there might be an immediate need to provision a new server. IT professionals thrive on change and a constant stream of new projects. This leaves to the big question- what are you? A cyclical one or a project-oriented personal. Maybe it’s time that you find that for yourself.
