10 Amazing Stories Behind Tech's Top Brand Names

#9 Android

Apparently, the creator of Android, Andy Rubin loves robots a lot. Here this from Nick Sears, the co-founder of Android: “You have to be a little bit careful when you’re around Andy and his robots. I’ve seen his dog attack his robots.” No wonder why he named the operating system Android, which combines half of his name and half “Droid” which means robot.

#8 Foursquare

Foursquare, the most popular check in app was founded by Dennis Crowley. His first attempt at social networking for mobile phones was Dodgeball, which was acquired by Google in 2005.

So, why did he decide to name his ventures with playground games?

Apparently, Crowley doesn’t have any special interest to playground games. “Dennis chose to name both companies after playground games because they were both designed to be fun and playful,” said Foursquare’s PR Manager to MAshable.

Crowley even planned to name his first venture Foursquare, but he named it Dodgeball as the name was not available that time.
