World's Most Controversial CEOs

Dick Cheney: Dick Cheney is remembered as the Vice President of the U.S. from 2001 to 2009. But we’re talking about his career prior to that. He served as the chairman and CEO of Halliburton Company from 1995 to 2000. During this time when Cheney was at the helm of Halliburton, the company attempted a merger with Nigerian firm Dresser Industries. The Nigerian firm alleged lack of transparency in the conduct of Halliburton authorities. There’s law suit filed against Halliburton by the Halliburton share holders for inflated share price. Then there’s the allegation of bribing Nigerian officials for a natural gas project. All this couldn’t stop Cheney from getting elected as the Vice President of the U.s.

Tony Hayward: In July 2013, Robert Gordon University awarded Tony Hayward with an honorary degree. Students called it a ‘sick joke’.  In May 2013, when University of Birmingham was honoring him as a ‘distinguished leader’, a large number of people staged walk-outs. Reason? Hayward was the CEO of BP in 2010, when the deep water horizon oil spill occurred. The initial explosion killed 11 people and the amount of oil being leaked per day varied from 5,000 barrels to 100,000 barrels. Hayward’s initial reaction downplayed the impact of the spill calling it  ‘modest’ and ‘tiny’. Later he described the spill as an environmental catastrophe. On 27th July 2010, BP announced Hayward’s replacement.
