Indian Voters' 9 Wish-list for a Change

Drinking Water Issues: Water touches every aspect of life, and in India uncertainty over access to and the availability of this basic resource may be reaching crisis levels. As India continues to undergo dramatic shifts caused by a growing economy and population, the demands for this limited resource coming from households, industry, and agriculture have wide implications for the country’s future. Nearly 50 percent of villages still don’t have any source of protected drinking water.

As per the World Health Organization estimation, 97 million Indians lack access to safe water today, second only to China. As a result, the World Bank estimates that 21 percent of communicable diseases in India are related to unsafe water. Without change, the problem may get worse as India is projected to grow significantly in the coming decades.

Roads:  Roads indirectly contribute to the economic growth of the country. So, it is extremely essential that the roads are well laid out and strong. But, unfortunately, India houses several bad roads be it the metropolitans, the cities or the villages. Bad road conditions are nothing new in India and the problem is being addressed since the last 3 decades. India being a huge country with quite a sizable population this problem still has not been addressed in totality. Although, India has a total of about 2 million kilometers of roads but the underlying fact is that 25 percent of villages in India still have poor road links. The other problems faced by the Indian roads are; bad riding quality, poor geometrics, potholes and insufficient pavement thickness.
