Tech Giants Turn Office Spaces into Happy Zones For Young Employees

BANGALORE: Imagining being at office sometimes gives you nightmares with images of haunting bosses, professional cubicles, and colleagues glued to their computers and sophistication at its peak.

Well, with today’s world being more open to new ideas, creativity and more fun at work; the office cubicles are replaced with bean bags and doors replaced by open spaces.

Top companies are making work more fun and relaxing as this helps employers gain more productivity. A calm mind and relaxed body drives creativity and ensures skills are utilized to the fullest.

The workforce is getting younger by the day and work habits are changing. The style of work has drastically changed for better.

With Google topping the list of companies that are turning office spaces into creative rooms and relaxing spaces, its employees work hard and concentrate on important projects. The new Google’s Gurgaon office has a reception inspired by the Taj Mahal, the walls have color changing capability, there is a railway coach for informal meetings, mini golf course, small cricket pitch, swings, napping pods, gym, massage, sauna rooms and also a kitchen with loads of food to grab.

"The new office reinforces the culture of the organization and is attractive to the young—Gen X, Gen Y. People are happier and that promotes productivity," said Google spokesperson Paroma Roy Chowdhury, reports The Economic Times.

Apart from Google renovating the boring office space, Indian offices of LinkedIn, Expedia, British Telecom, and Unilever IT Center are all fitted with creative space purposed to enlighten the recreational value and tap the creative sides of employees without getting them jarred with loads of work.

LinkedIn even tried to import London telephone booths to be used as phone enclosures, but when it couldn't, it used wallpaper to mimic the design. Another interesting approach—the top bosses at Unilever's IT centre in Bangalore don't have any cabins and sit out in the open, like everyone else.

Such offices with creative designs, give ample space for employees to think, shrug off work pressure, and prioritize innovation more than anything else. With a majority of workforce being young and under the age of 30 on an average, these creative spaces boost their talent and give them an enjoyable work atmosphere, eventually increasing the company’s profit.
