UIDAI Partners CIA Funded MongoDB To Institute Aadhaar

Bangalore: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) entered into a contract with a New York based startup MongoDB for issuing the Aadhaar card in the country. However, the information that the technology solution provider is funded by Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) started to smell fishy, reports Economic Times.

Max Schireson, chief executive of MongoDB was in New Delhi last week for signing the deal. The startup deploys softwares that assist in capturing, analyzing and managing large volume of unstructured data. Since its founding in 2007 the company has raised $231 million. The most suspicious is that MangoDB is funded by a venture capital arm of CIA, In-Q-Tel. Even though the amount received was not furnished, the stated mission is to identify, adapt and deliver innovative technology solutions to support the missions of CIA and the broader U.S. intelligence community.

In addition to CIA, In-Q-Tel is also associated with National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency and Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate "Once an investment is made, IQT (the fund) works with the company and the intelligence community partner agency to complete a work program and facilitate solution delivery," the fund's website said.
