Google Buys Ad Startup Wildfire


Bangalore: Google makes yet another acquisition worth $250 million; it acquired a software linker ‘Wildfire’ to help the world’s largest search engine company to expand further into social media. Though much information about this deal is not publicly available, the fact and figure was disclosed by a source reported by yahoo news.

Incorporated in 2008 by Victoria Ransom and Alain Chuard, Wildfire provides software that links websites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and such other social networking sites which allows customers to manage their online brand and presence. Wildfire has a strong database of clients which include Sony Corp and Amazon.com Inc.

Wildfire is said to have about 400 employees. It powers social media marketing for over 16,000 businesses which includes 30 of the top 50 global brands. It has been consistent and has been in business strong in business which might have been the reason for Google to peep into it.

This acquisition would help Google because the company specializes and masters in technology which would help advertisers reach consumers online. The search engine giant also had another recent acquisition for $100 million; it bought a media startup Meboo in June to ensure that the Google as a brand has no substitutes. With Wildfire it may plan to slot into a group of online services offered through its double click.

This year has seen some great social media acquisitions until date, Salesforce.com, a global software enterprise snapped up Buddy Media in June for $700 million and Oracle had also acquired several social media businesses this year which includes Involver, Vitrue and Collective Intellect.
