Former Disney India MD Invests in AR Rahman's Qyuki

Bangalore: A R Rahman and Shekhar Kapur’s digital media startup, Qyuki, has procured an undisclosed amount of angel funding from Samir Bangara, former Disney India MD. Bangara will be the new CEO of Qyuki, replacing the current one , reports MediaNama.

Launched in December 2012, Qyuki Digital Media Private is a platform for artists to share their creations and connect with like-minded people. The technology helps the users to collaborate on creative projects and distribute it across the network. Prior to this funding, Qyuki had received 27 crore for 17% stake from Cisco in February 2012.

Samir Bhangara former Disney India MD has enhanced India’s leading digital businesses specializing in games, audio & video content. Before the acquisition of Disney, he was the COO of Indiagames  and has an experience of 15 years in the media and technology space. Bangara has been regular on the startup investing circuit.

The Qyuki website is broadly divided into four main sections namely Creations, Premiers, Community and Inspirations. The Creations section showcases all the content previously uploaded by various artists and experts in a pinboard format. The site offers a Tumblr-like dashboard for users to upload their creation as well as an iOS and Android app which allows one to upload content from their mobile phones. The community section lists all members and experts across several categories including Chetan Bhagat, Imitiaz Ali, Ranjit Barot and Suresh Natarajan.
