‘The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins’ is a children's book, written and illustrated by Theodor Geisel under the pen name Dr. Seuss and published by Vanguard Press in 1938. Unlike the majority of Geisel's books, it is written in prose rather than rhyming and metered verse. It teaches kids that everybody is in search of something important and that the rules are not really followed by the people who make them. This sense of writing raised question of authority among parents, who promptly grounded Seuss and told him he could not come out of time out until he wrote a book that rhymed.

‘The King's Stilts’ is a children's book written and illustrated by Theodor Geisel and published in 1939 by Random House. Unlike many Dr. Seuss books, this one is narrated in prose rather than verse. What makes The King’s Stilts particularly interesting is that it was one of the only publications from Seuss that was written in prose instead of verse, so it’s one of the few books left that give a real look into author’s writing form.
