Global Experts Praise India's Green Hydrogen Roadmap
The Vice Chair of the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE), Dr. Noe Van Hulst, praised India's National Green Hydrogen Mission and its ambitious targets during the IPHE meeting hosted by India in New Delhi from March 18 to 22, 2024. According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Hulst stated that the participating countries are impressed by India's policies and regulatory framework aimed at achieving these targets. He emphasized that if India succeeds in meeting these goals, it will lead the global hydrogen development.
The meeting, which includes delegates from 23 advanced countries such as France, Japan, Germany, the UAE, and the US, is part of the Industry Outreach Programme of the Steering Committee Meeting. The Stakeholders’ Consultation Day focused on fostering collaboration and dialogue among key stakeholders to advance clean and green hydrogen technologies.
During the inaugural session of the Industry Outreach Programme, Special Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, P. Kumaran, highlighted the global emergence of Green Hydrogen as a solution for clean energy transition. He emphasized its potential to significantly impact hard-to-abate sectors, long-term energy storage, and mobility, especially given India's abundant renewable resources.
Ajay Yadav, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, outlined various Green Hydrogen projects in India, noting the gradual development of a Green Hydrogen ecosystem across the country.
Chairperson of CII Taskforce on Green Hydrogen and Chairperson of Avaada Group, Shri Vineet Mittal, commended IPHE's role in promoting the Hydrogen economy and stressed the need for policy autonomy for India to pursue decarbonization effectively. He also urged international organizations like the WTO and the UN to support the adoption of Green Hydrogen.
The meeting featured technical panel discussions on safety and international trade policies. Panellists emphasized the paramount importance of safety in Green Hydrogen technologies and discussed measures to ensure safety and emergency preparedness. The session on International Trade Policies highlighted the importance of collaboration among partnering countries to create trade policies facilitating the export of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives, focusing on supply-chain resilience and best practices implementation.
Overall, the IPHE meeting underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in advancing clean and green hydrogen technologies, positioning India as a key player in the global hydrogen economy.
