Chennai's Worst Rain in 100 Years: Detailed Report

It will be wrong to say that Chennai is the only city getting affected in this heavy rainfall. Surrounding regions like Puducherry, Cuddalore, Coimbatore and Nilgiris district are victims of the rain as well. The Met Department of Chennai predicts the same crisis state to continue for the next three days making it the worst rain of Tamil Nadu in last 100 years. Regional Meteorological Department Director, S.R. Ramanan comments, “Due to low pressure rainfall will continue in next 24 hours in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry with some places receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall.”

Relief Packages Offered

As a hand of aid, both state and central government has extended monetary assistance to the rain stuck victims of Tamil Nadu. The government declares a total damage of 8481 crore. CM Jayalaitha extended 500crore rehabilitation fund beforehand. Now she appealed to the central for 2000crore release for the state. PM Narendra Modi sanctioned 940 crores for this disgraceful state of Tamil Nadu. Private associations are also offering help to the victims of the rain.
