7. Somalia

Somalia has been one of the red alert countries. The most recent of the major terror attacks was the 2011 Mogadishu bombing, when a suicide bomber drove a truck into the ministerial complex in Mogadishu, Somalia.

The explosion killed over 100 people and over 110 others were injured. The attack is seen as one of the largest since the Al-Shabaab insurgency launched in early 2007. Al- Shabaab is the unit of the militant Islamist group Al-Qaeda based in Somalia, recognized in 2012.

6. India

Terrorism increased by 70 per cent in India from 2012 to 2013. More than 1300 people have lost their lives in major terror attacks in the country. The 1993 serial blast in Mumbai remains the deadliest of all terror attacks in India. In 1993, 13 RDX bombs went off killing 257 people and wounded over 700 in Mumbai.

There have been many terror attacks over the last decade. Communist terrorist groups are by far the most frequent perpetrators and the main cause of deaths in India. Three Maoist communist groups claimed responsibility for 192 deaths in 2013, which was nearly half of all deaths from terrorism in India.

The one that made a great impact on the people was the 2008 Mumbai attacks by Islamist terrorists, trained in Pakistan. The most recent of the terror attacks is the twin blasts in Hyderabad, which is being linked to communal riots.
