Key People: Nandan Nilekani

After a successful career at Infosys, Nandan Nilekani headed the Government of India's technology committee, TAGUP.  UIDAI, formed in 2009 is the world’s biggest biometric data capture exercise with an aim to deliver unique identification number to 60 crore people by the end of 2014.

The primary concern was to issue Unique Identification Number "Aadhaar" to residents of India who desire to have it.

The database stores the fingerprint and iris scans of the user to authenticate the identity. The unique 12 digit number can be linked to bank account of the user.  A total 450 million people have got their unique identification number so far.
