5 Bad Business Decisions in History

Decca Records Biggest Loss: In 1969, four guys were seated in front of Tony Meehan, the producer at Decca Records. They were received coldly by him, who remarked that “guitar groups were on the way out” at that point of time. Instead of these guys who were later known as the Beatles, he signed Bryan Poole.

This decision is one he will always remember and regret because the very next year, the Beatles, which was made up of music icons John McCarthy, John Lennon, George Harrison and Pete Best, released their first single called ‘I want to hold your hand’.

This song was just the start of a world tour that earned them name and fame and also had them featuring in movies and the likes. These men who were rejected by Decca made huge contributions to the world of rock and roll.

Fox rejects Star Wars offer:  George Lucas, the maker of the film ‘Star Wars’ approached the executives of Fox Entertainment with an offer to give away the merchandise rights to them in exchange for a 300 percent pay raise. This was declined by them as they had suffered a huge failure with the Dr. Doolittles merchandise.

This declined was a huge bonus for Lucas, whose fortune rose incredibly after the success of the film. The stores were stormed by parents and children alike for the merchandise and this was looked on by Fox Entertainment executives in total dismay.
