The World Stood Still
Monday, November 17, 2008
Just as we were going to press with this issue, the horrific, mind-numbing terrorist attack took place on September 11, against the United States and the freedom-loving world. We went from shock and horror to dismay, grief, anger, revenge, shattered memories and hope. The world is a different place to live in.

New York City in particular is very dear to us at siliconindia. Our founding office was a few blocks from the World Trade Center, until we moved it to midtown Manhattan earlier this year. Most of us who worked there walked through the World Trade Center twice a day. It was our stomping ground. It was symbolic of the American Dream, and we felt like we were at the center of the Universe. New York City is one big, strong family that we feel a part of, and whose many intrinsic strengths can be seen in these trying times. The wounds are very deep, and the recovery will be long and trying.

These events will have a grave impact on the strategic balance in all of South Asia and its surrounding regions. This is a time when terrorist atrocities born by innocent people around the world, including India, in the past several years have come to the sharp attention of the peace-loving world. The previous most destructive terrorist attack in history of the world was a series of bomb blasts in Mumbai, India during the course of March 12 1993. Now, if the beloved World Trade Center can be brought crashing to the ground, with such cold-heartedness, precision, innovation, confidence and relatively low effort, this can happen anywhere, to anyone. Furthermore, these perpetrators are individuals who don’t fear death, don’t want money and don’t care much for comfort. We are indeed facing a war. But this is a different class of enemy. The world has known it before — but the intent and the intelligence is now on a different, sinister scale. It will be a long and sustained war — but reason will prevail, and this sort of evil will not survive.

Our heartfelt wishes go out to all who have been affected by this. We at siliconindia have been one with the great efforts being put in by all in rescue and recovery. We have connected with our friends in the publishing industry to make meaningful contributions. You can find it all on our Web site: www.siliconindia.com. Please let us know if we can help in anyway we can. Email us at: editor@corp.siliconindia.com. We don’t know the developments that will play out from the time we write this to the time you read it. Our hopes and prayers are with you all. But we hope we have seen the worst, and that better sense will prevail in the world.

Take care, and best wishes,
