4. Tamil Nadu- 273, 400 crore

According to the 2011 census, Tamil Nadu is the most urbanized state in India accounting for 9.6 percent of the urban population while only comprising 6 percent of India's total population.

In TN, service offerings contribute to 45 percent of the economic activity in the state, followed by manufacturing at 34 percent and agriculture at 21 percent. Tamil Nadu has a network of about 113 industrial parks and estates offering developed plots with supporting infrastructure.

5. Karnataka- 252, 600 crore

Efficiency in tax collection has boosted Karnataka’s revenue. During the April-December period, commercial tax collection grew by 17 percent to 23,242 crore over the same period last year.

Excise collection went up 22 percent to 8, 299 crore; motor vehicles tax collection grew 21 percent to 2, 621 crore. Only in stamps and registration, the State registered single-digit growth of eight percent at 3,899 crore, reports The Hindu Business Line.
