People Affected: Similar to the attack on the University of Nebraska, the University of North Carolina was attacked by an hacker that gained around 350,000 files that contained information of students, applicants, alumni, parents. The information included their personal as well as financial information. The breach was not shut down immediately and was made available for three months.
9. Emory Healthcare, Inc.

People Affected: 315,000
Brief: Emory Healthcare informed the public that 10 computer disks that contained the information of nearly 315,000 patients have went missing. The company regretted the incident and released a series of statements to ensure faith among its customers that it is dedicated to make sure that the data of its patients is safe. The breach that can lead to a class-action lawsuit against the company is expected to cost a whopping $200 million.
