India: The Most Risky Data Center Location


Bangalore: India has come out as the second most risk prone data center location among 20 countries in a study conducted by Cushman & Wakefield and Hurleypalmerflatt.The study aims at helping organizations to locate their data centers avoiding the ones that risk its successful operation. It will not only help them to make informed investment decisions about setting up data centers but also in developing adequate strategies to neutralize these risks.

The study ranked these countries based on the following parameters:             

-International bandwidth (Mbit/s)
-Ease of doing business
-Corporation tax
-Labor
-Political stability
-Sustainability
-Natural disasters
-GDP per capita
-Inflation
-Water (availability per capita)
-Energy (cost per kWh)

India, scored the lowest in parameters such as ease of doing business, inflation, GDP per capita, and corporation tax. However, it ranked higher in cost of labor and sustainability. Factors such as quality of power and outages also worked against India’s favor.
