When Struggle and Hardships Paid-Off for These Indian Olympic Stars

Vijay Kumar:

Kumar hails from Barsar village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is presently a serving subedar in the Dogra Regiment in The Indian Army. Much wasn’t known about him earlier until he won the silver medal at the London Olympics and became a hero of the nation. He has been posted at Army Marksmanship Unit in Mhow since 2003, where he is being coached by the Russian Pavel Smirnov. His financial life was not stable and for this reason he had to struggle a lot. Only until recently, Vijay managed to buy a pistol for his training. He had to undergo a tough training and was constantly exposed to foreign trips, thus making him stay away from his family for months. He had always maintained a low profile for himself. There was hardly any news of this great athlete when he had won three gold medals and one silver in his respective category. With such stupendous performance, he was never in the limelight of the media.
