UN Report Supports Women Quota in Indian Parliament

The studies done by the UNDP report shows that the quotas for the panchayata have affected the village policies largely. The women in power have focused on better water supply and infrastructure and missed attention on creating jobs unlike the men who work on creating jobs.

Another setback is faced from the politicians on opposition who represent lower –caste voters, who assert that quotas will widen the social division of India. They have demanded for quotas for women or lower caste within the women reservation seats, which hinder the process further.

As per the report “Promoting increased number of women’s political leadership and gender equality is a matter of national development issue, a human right and a moral obligation”. Whether it’s a nation or the world, when man and women participate equally in national or global development, only then there can be a complete growth.

Maybe without passing the 33 percent reservation law, the opponents are asking women to take part in the country’s progress on one’s own efforts, but that’s like miles to go without proper encouragement. India has to broaden the horizon when national development is at stake and consider the pros of increasing the ration of women in the lower parliament sooner than later.
