The Past, Present & Future of Enterprise's Biggest Asset; Email

Thus this brings to an exciting point of understanding a service we use so frequently in a better way. Let us have a look at the journey of Email and where we see it in the future:

The Past

In 1971, Tomlinson was assigned to develop ARPANET to allow scientists and researchers at BBN to share resources from each other’s computers. The same year Tomlinson, using the SNDMSG program sent the first network mail on the TENEX time-sharing program for Digital PDP-10 computers.

Though, email on the same computer existed since 1960s which was more like leaving a sticky-note for other employees who will be using that computer, Tomlinson’s invention lead to a revolution that has still kept the world captured.

The first test mail that Tomlinson sent has been lost in history as he does not remember one of those numerous test mails.

Tomlinson was the first one to introduce the usage of ‘@’ to distinguish between hosts. Email started gripping the world since 1972 with TENEX’s next release to 15 sites on other locations. He also explains how using email back then was more or less similar to the way we use it today.
