The Indian Politicians Facing Serious Corruption Charges



Lalu Prasad Yadav: Former Union Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo, Lalu Prasad Yadav, who ruled Bihar for over a decade, was convicted by special CBI judge Pravas Kumar Singh for his involvement in a multi-crore fodder scam. As such, he faced immediate disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP and his political future too is in jeopardy. He has been convicted of corruption, criminal conspiracy and cheating. Lalu was among the 45 people facing charges in the RC 20 A/96 case and had been charged with fraudulent withdrawing of 37.7 crore on fake fodder bills from Chaibasa treasury in the 1990s. The charges were framed under sections 420 (cheating), 120 b (conspiracy), sections 467 and 477 of the Indian Penal code (467, 477) and sections 13(1) and 13(1) d of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Madhu Koda: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and MP Madhu Koda is facing allegations of amassing disproportionate assets besides charges of money laundering, which are being probed by the Enforcement Directorate. The Jharkhand Vigilance Bureau had registered an FIR on July 2, 2009, in a case of disproportionate assets involving Koda and some former state ministers. The agency had alleged that the accused had acquired a large number of properties and companies, within and outside the country, out of this ill-gotten wealth. The official said Koda's assets and expenditure have been found to be disproportionate to the tune of approximately 8.42 crore. His arrest came after the Enforcement Directorate, the CBI and the Income Tax department had accused him and his aides of money laundering, illegal investments, property ownership in foreign countries. Initially the IT had in November, 2009 alleged that Koda and his alleged aides had indulged in corruption to the tune of 2,500 crore, which allegedly went up to 4000 crore during the course of investigation.
